When styling one of our most popular decks- Trex Transcend® in Havana Gold- our design team looked no further than another popular Caribbean capital for inspiration. Known for its colourful facades, exotic greenery and hints of nostalgia, Old San Juan serves as a stunning, if not perpetual, muse. Here are five ways to bring a salsa-fied dose of style to your backyard.

Colour

Start with a super saturated palette of ocean blue, emerald green, lemon yellow and pinky coral. Whether applied in small doses—think pillows, tableware and doormats—or large—why not kick that white-picket fence up a notch?—you’re bound to make a statement.

Pattern

The choice is yours: B&W chequerboard or Moroccan flourishes? Both patterns are hallmarks of Spanish style, and would look perfectly at home outdoors, whether in the form of decorative hurricanes, hot plates or even DIY stepping stones that lead from your grass to your deck.

Texture

Fold in organic accents—think wicker, rattan, bamboo and carved wood—to balance bolds and brights.

Nature

Whether nestled in planters or repeated on upholstery, lush greenery—think palm fronds and banana leaves—delivers major Caribbean vibes.

Nostalgia

From old-fashioned cars to Art Deco paintings, Old San Juan teems with midcentury influence. When it comes to your deck, try a vintage seat or low-legged table for throwback appeal.
